Contents
Per 5 mL Salbutamol sulfate 1 mg, guaifenesin 50 mg
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic management of cough associated w/ bronchitis or asthma.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 2-3 tsp bd-tds. Childn 6-12 yr 1-2 tsp bd-tds, 2-6 yr 1 tsp bd-tds.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to salbutamol, adrenergic amines, guaifenesin.
Special Precautions
Not to be used for persistent or chronic cough. CV disease eg, arrhythmia or HTN or heart failure; convulsive disorders, diabetes, glaucoma, hyperthyroidism, hypokalemia. BP & heart rate elevation; increased risk of arrhythmia & drug-induced kidney stone formation, increased serum glucose, decreased serum K. May produce emesis due to large-dose use. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Angina, atrial fibrillation, arrhythmias, chest discomfort & pain, supraventricular tachycardia, tachycardia; CNS stimulation, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, insomnia, irritability, lightheadedness, migraine, nervousness, nightmares, restlessness, seizure; angioedema, rash, urticaria; hyperglycemia, hypokalemia, lactic acidosis; diarrhea, dry mouth, dyspepsia, gastroenteritis, nausea, unusual taste, vomiting, GI discomfort; micturition difficulty; muscle cramps, musculoskeletal pain, tremor, weakness; otitis media, vertigo; asthma exacerbation, bronchospasm, cough, epistaxis, laryngitis, oropharyngeal drying/irritation & edema, pharyngitis, rhinitis, upper resp inflammation, viral resp infection; allergic reaction, anaphylaxis, diaphoresis, lymphadenopathy.
Drug Interactions
Inhibited bronchodilating effects w/ β-blockers. Increased pressor response w/ methyldopa. Potentiated action w/ MAOIs. Potentiated pressor response w/ TCAs. Decreased theophylline levels. Worsened ECG changes & hypokalemia w/ diuretics. Decreased digoxin serum levels. Increased renal clearance for urate; lowered serum uric acid levels. Increased urinary 5-hydroxyindoleacetic (5-HIAA) acid & interfered test interpretation in diagnosis of carcinoid syndrome. Falsely elevated vanillylmandelic acid (VMA) test for catechols.
